Indigenous Round 2025: Special Talk from Aunty Jill Gallagher AO - Listen Back

We were lucky enough to be joined by Dr Aunty Jill Gallagher AO and Jim O’Shea as part of our celebrations for Indigenous Round at Matlock.

Aunty Jill is a proud Gunditjmara woman from western Victoria and Jim is a proud Gumbaynggirr man and CHC Masters player.

Aunty Jill spoke about…

  • The importance of truth telling and the Yoorrook Justice Commission.

  • The work of VACCHO, where Aunty Jill is CEO and Jim is COO, which is the peak body for Aboriginal health and wellbeing to elevate issues to Government to build capability and sustainability of community health organisations, and address the social determinants of health.

  • The process of Treaty in Victoria (which Aunty Jill has been closely involved in), the First People’s Assembly of Victoria, and what Victorians will gain from this.

  • Pride in our First Nations culture over the past 65,000 years.

  • The significance of a Welcome to Country and the difference to an Acknowledgement of Country.

And importantly how we can make change and use our voice.

You can listen to Aunty Jill’s special talk here:

Thank-you Aunty Jill and Jim for sharing your knowledge with us and to those who attended the special talk with brilliant questions.

Aunty Jill will be at Matlock on Saturday 26 July for an Acknowledgement of Country at 3.15pm between MPL and WPL games.
